Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Pats open their Pre-Season schedule against the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre tonight. The contest is the first exhibition game for both teams as players look to earn spots on their respective rosters.
The Pats head to Prince Albert with 35 players currently on the roster while the Raiders have their squad down to 28.
One of the Pats most interesting story-lines throughout the exhibition season will be the battle between the pipes as incumbent Teagan Sacher battles with newcomer Dawson MacAuley and returnee Adam Beukeboom for both the starter’s position and the two spots available on the roster.
Austin Wagner is one of four 16-year old players remaining on the Pats roster. The Calgary, AB product already suited up for a game with the Pats in 2012-13 and knows what he has to do to be successful in his first pre-season tilt.
“All I can do is play my game. If I just skate, pass and work hard, that’s my game and if I don’t make it this year, that’s it. I need to play my game and try to not change anything, that’s all I can do.”
The young players will be chasing spots held down by returning players. With an abundance of 19-year old skaters on the roster, it could be players from that group moving on. Forward Carson Samoridny does his best to not let that extra pressure be a distraction.
“I know we’re all trying to not think about that and just play our game and just let what happens kind of happen… everything happens for a reason.”
You can catch tonight’s road game on 620CKRM starting at 6:35 p.m. with the Press Box Sports Bar Pre-Game Show as the broadcast team of Phil Andrews and Daniel Fink returns to the air for another season of Home Depot Pats Hockey.
The Blue and White return home tomorrow night for their first home date of the WHL Pre-Season. Tickets are included for Season Ticket Holders and are just $10 for Individual Tickets. Puck drop is 7:00 p.m. at the Brandt Centre.
