Lyndon Martell shows off scoring touch in Regina Pats training camp

BY GREG HARDER, LEADER-POST AUGUST 29, 2011

Lyndon Martell doesn’t seem like the flashiest player on the ice — until you look at the scoresheet.

The lanky left winger with the deft scoring touch has lived up to his reputation since the start of Regina Pats training camp, quietly leading the team with eight goals after three days of scrimmages. The trend continued Sunday with a goal in Team Blue’s 4-3 shootout win over Team White in Regina’s annual intrasquad game at the Co-operators Centre.

“That’s my game,” offered Martell, 18. “I’m getting some opportunities where I can use my shot and they’re going in right now so that’s good. Confidence is always a key. I just keep shooting for the open spots and shooting hard and they keep going in. Hopefully I can keep that going into the season. I’m excited about it.”

Martell began last season with the Kamloops Blazers before he was assigned to the BCHL’s Prince George Spruce Kings, recording 13 goals and 31 points in 44 junior A games. Upon arriving in Regina via trade, Martell immediately showed a knack for scoring goals before cooling off late in the season, finishing with six goals and 10 points in 29 games.
